Ice late, small and scattered. (GR).
At Ferryland,drift ice coming along Feb 10th with vessels passing along in the ice until the 24th, generally mild thereafter. No ice to be seen after Apr 9,only bergs. (JW/GR).
Northern Ice at St.John’s arrived Feb 13 departed Feb 18th. (GR).
No issues available of the Newfoundlander.
No ice mentioned in SCL.

February

Feb 8 SS “United Kingdom” from the Clyde to New York 48N 48W fell in with a large field of ice at 5 am and coasted it till 2 pm, when it became more detached; at 6 pm 47N 48W passed between 2 large fields, after which she saw no more of it. (LL).

Mar 5 St. John’s: There has been a prevalence here of offshore winds and mild weather latterly, and at present no ice is visible from hence. (LL).
Mar 31 Halifax: “Lucretia” arrived here from Fortune Bay, reports large quantities of ice 25m SSW of St. Peter’s. (LL).

April

Apr 13 Issue: seal fishery seems OK (no other mention of ice). (PL).
Apr 28 Quebec: River and gulf now clear of ice. (LL).
May 16 Liverpool: SS “North Briton” at Quebec reported having passed through a large field of ice off St. Paul’s. (LL).
