Dec 3, 1866 Ship News – The vessel “Vincent” arrived from Charlottetown, P.E.I. yesterday, which is something very remarkable for the season of the year. – Halifax Reporter” (Ex 21 January 1867, p3#2)
Dec 26 The Schooner “Jane” on arriving at Souris left for Charlottetown on Wednesday night, the 26 of December and on Thursday night experienced a heavy gale from South East. Between Point Prim light and the Block House got in the ice, dragged down to two fathoms water under St. Peter’s Island; at half-past four in the morning struck adrift, got double reefed mainsail and bowed off the jib and ran for the Block House; jib was carried away and got into the ice under Smith’s. Lay there until Saturday at noon, the wind came to westward which parted the ice, and got in Rocky Point Wharf. (Ex 7 January 1867, p3#6)

Dec 31 For more than half the past week we were without any mails from abroad, owing to the suspension of the navigation for the season (Ex 31 Dec p2#4)
Jan 1 On Tuesday last, while the wind was blowing a gale from the southeast, three men started off in a frail skiff from the shore at the lower end of the inner harbour of Newport, to rescue a sheep which had by some means got adrift. (Ex 7 Jan p3#6)

Jan 14 The Mails – Up to the time of going to press this evening, we have no account of the mails from abroad. Three Boats crossed this morning, we understand, from the Cape Traverse side; and the ice having made by the recent hard frosts, it is to be hoped the boats have made a good passage across the Straits. May 11 “Devonshire” at Quebec detained 30 hours in ice 30m north of Cape Breton. (LL).
May 11 “Anne Foster” for Quebec saw 2 large bergs jammed in the ice off Cape North, and encountered a good deal of ice all the way up north. (LL)
May 14 Halifax, barque “Realm,” from Philadelphia, arrived at Miramichi 14th inst, reports picked up in the Gulf 15 of the crew of barque “Sea Queen,” from Hull for Quebec. The ”Sea Queen” had her bow ports stove in by ice and sank at once, taking down five of the crew. (NS 27/05/1867 p7 #5)
May 17 Quebec: “Sea King” from Grimsby for here has been lost in the ice; 5 drowned. (LL).
