Apr 20 The harbour of Charlottetown is again happily clear of ice, and there are some indications of the return of Spring, although Winter’s “ruffian blasts” are evidently not disposed to take a hasty leave of us. A more severe and wearisome winter has never, we think, been experienced by the “oldest inhabitant” than the one we have just past through. (Ex 20 Apr p2#6)
Apr 21 Father Point: Very little ice in river. (LL)

May 2 The drift ice made its appearance in our harbour yesterday. It will remain awaiting a change of wind. We hope it is the last of the Gulf ice of this season on its passage south past our shores. (CB News 02/05/1863 p3 #2)
May 2 Several coasting vessels, which proceeded to sea, from the North Bar, on Tuesday last returned to port the following day in consequence of contrary winds, and appearance of drift ice on the coast. (CB News 02/05/1863 p3#2)
May 8 Ship “Iona” at Quebec from Liverpool passed through great quantities of ice from the Banks to the SW point of Anticosti & saw a great number of vessels in the ice. (LL).
