1822 Season
Nov 30 We learn that a report is received in town from Rivière-du-Loup, stating that the ship “London”, Elsworthy, for Liverpool, was seen off that place on the 30th ultimo, surrounded with ice, and it was apprehended that she would not succeed in getting out of the river this season. The mail for London, which was on board the “Clarkestone”, was put on board the “London”. (QM #47, P391. Tuesday, Dec 4, 1821)
Apr 30 Vessel sunk by ice off the Magdalen Is. (LL)
Apr 30 Pictou, May 18, on the 14th inst arr here, brig “John & Charlotte”, from Portsmouth bound to Miramichi, which vessel on the 30th ulto off the Magdalen Island struck against a mass of ice and in 15 min sunk. Arr. on the 15th brig “Neva”, from Portsmouth. She had her bow stove in by the ice and was otherwise injured. (AR 25/05/1822 p3 #3)
