Gulf Ice Charts 1815

Feb “The weather Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday were uncommonly cold days – the harbour [Halifax] was entirely shut up with ice, a circumstance which had not happened for several years past. The thermometer was 16 below 0 on Wednesday.” (AR 04/02/1815 p3 #3)

May 11 Transport ship “Henry” arrived from Portsmouth for Quebec sailing Apr 7. Could not get in the Gulf due to quantity of ice so put to St. John’s. (RG)
