Mar 22 SS “Delaware” at New York between Flemish Cap and the outward edge of the Banks passed a quantity of small pieces of ice.
Mar 27 Quebec: all the signal service stations in the Gulf and lower St. Lawrence with the exception of Belle Isle, report no ice in sight. At Belle Isle heavy close packed ice is reported as far as the eye can reach.
Mar 28 Sydney Light: the coast of eastern Nova Scotia and Gulf of St. Lawrence continue clear and vessels arriving from Newfoundland report bays and harbours on southwest coast free of ice.
Mar 28 SS “Kildona” at Portland 4810’N 5020’W several pieces of floating ice.
May 5 SS “Corean” between St. John’s and Cape Race passed 4 small icebergs.
May 26 St. John’s” the Strait of Belle Isle is now free of ice, but heavy Arctic floes are drifting south some miles east of the coast, effectively preventing the approach of ocean steamers. Steamers which have arrived here report that large icebergs are lying in the track of vessels using the Cape Race route.
Jun 9 5740’N 5040’W several bergs but no drift ice.
